Subject: 24.07.03 Ph.D. Positions in Computational Modeling for Advanced Biomaterial Design (Tuscaloosa, AL, USA)
About Openings: Dr. Zhaos group at the University of Alabama (Tuscaloosa, AL)
are offering multiple fully funded Ph.D. positions for motivated and talented
graduate students interested in cutting-edge research at the intersection of
molecular simulation, machine learning, and mesoscale modeling in Spring 2025.
Our research focuses on AI-assisted multiscale simulations to facilitate the
rational design of bioinspired advanced functional nanomaterials. Current
Projects include:

* Molecular modeling of biomolecule assembly for drug discovery/delivery.

* Mesoscale modeling of biopolymer-grafted nanoparticle assembly for advanced
nanofabrication.

* Data-driven molecular design of biopolymers.

Benefits: successful candidates will receive highly competitive stipend,
comprehensive health insurance, and access to excellent research facilities

Qualifications: applicants should hold a Bachelors or Masters degree in
Chemical Engineering, Materials Science Engineering, Biomedical Engineering,
Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field. While prior experience
in computer programming, molecular simulation, lattice Boltzmann method, and
machine learning is advantageous, it is not required. A strong foundation in
materials science, chemical engineering, and mathematics is essential.

Research Group: Dr. Mingfei Zhao will join the Department of Chemical and
Biological Engineering at the University of Alabama as an Assistant
Professor in August 2024. The primary research focus of Dr. Zhaos group
centers on utilizing multiscale modeling techniques to understand and
manipulate biomolecule and particle self-assembly towards a diverse spectrum
of applications, including nanofabrication, biomedical, biochemical, and
bioengineering fields.

The UA Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering is the fastest-rising
chemical engineering program in the nation, according to U.S. News and World
Report. Over the last five years, research funding in the department has
increased by 260% and Ph.D. enrollment has increased by 88%. In case you
are curious about our location, Tuscaloosa is a beautiful city
(https://visittuscaloosa.com) with a very mild climate and a low cost of
living. It is about a 4hour drive to the gulf coast where you will find
some of the most beautiful beaches in the world (https://www.gulfshores.com/)
Birmingham is the largest neighboring city (1hour drive), with a
population of approximately 1 million residents. If you need more information
