Subject: 24.04.04 3-year PhD studentship in spin- and photophysics of NV- centres in diamond
The NMR Research Unit (http://cc.oulu.fi/~nmrwww/) at the University of Oulu, Finland, invites
applications for a three-year PhD student position in spin physics and magnetic resonance theory.

With the NV- point defect in diamond it is possible to realise a quantum sensor allowing NMR and EPR
of individual nuclear and electron spins both within and outside of the diamond material. In this project
we construct and apply a computational multiscale model for the magnetic and optical transitions in
the NV- centre, aimed at simulating existing and suggesting novel single-spin NMR and EPR
experiments for ultra-sensitive spectroscopy, quantum magnetometry and quantum state control.

We require a MSc degree in physics, physical/theoretical/computational chemistry, mqaterials science,
or a related field, including experience in quantum mechanics and scientific computing. Knowledge of
quantum chemistry, spin dynamics, molecular dynamics, or reaction kinetics is considered a merit.
