Subject: 20.01.15 PhD POSITION IN MOLECULAR SIMULATIONS OF PROTEIN COMPLEXES, THE UNIVERSITY OF AUCKLAND, AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND
The Mercadante Group is seeking an exceptionally motivated individual to join the team as a PhD candidate in molecular simulations of intrinsically disordered proteins. In particular, the candidate will investigate how post-translational modifications regulate the behavior of protein-protein complexes. The PhD candidate will be fully funded by a scholarship for the duration of 3 years. The ideal candidate would have hands-on experience in molecular simulations, and a degree in either chemistry, physics, biology or a related area. An understanding of the theoretical basis of molecular dynamics simulations, strong motivation and proficiency in written and spoken English are a must. The student will be involved in developing and applying computational workflows and in interfacing her/his computational results with the work of a series of experimental collaborators. The candidate will have the opportunity to travel internationally for conferences and to visit the labs of collaborators. Experience with UNIX/Linux operating environments, using molecular dynamics simulation packages or knowledge of protein chemistry and dynamics, would be a plus, BUT are not indispensable for taking up the role. This is an excellent opportunity to further develop skills in molecular modelling and molecular dynamics simulations, with the possibility of joining the vibrant academic environment of the School of Chemical Sciences at The University of Auckland, New Zealand. Situated on the northern Island of New Zealand, Auckland is the largest city of New Zealand, offering a cosmopolitan and vibrant environment, with great outdoors, beaches, cafes and restaurants at your doorstep. The starting date of the position is preferred to be March 2020 but it is negotiable.
