Based in Cheshire, UK the Medicines Discovery Catapult will collaborate 
with academia and industry to develop new approaches for discovering the 
medicines of the future. 

It is one of eleven Catapult centres, established by Innovate UK to 
encourage innovation and growth in the UKs high-potential industrial 
sectors. The aim of the Catapults is to bring expertise, innovation and 
investment together to improve the pathway towards national and 
international commercial success for new discoveries and businesses.
The Catapult and its partners will work together to identify approaches 
which are more predictive, efficient and of higher scientific and economic 
value than is currently available, enabling them to become world-leaders 
in the industry. 

The cheminformatics team at the Medicines Discovery Catapult brings 
state-of-the art science in machine learning, AI and cheminformatics to 
UK drug discovery SMEs and academic groups. 

Working directly with external organisations, and with colleagues in the 
Catapults Informatics and Discovery Sciences groups, you will use your 
knowledge and experience to provide expert informatics support to the UK 
drug discovery community in a collaborative setting.
We are looking for the very best people to join the Medicines Discovery 
Catapult team in driving the UK to the forefront of commercial success for 
medicines discovery, committing to place the patient at the beginning of 
discovery and helping the sector move faster to the patient.

Main duties and responsibilities: 

Using machine learning approaches to extract information from structured 
and unstructured sources to solve problems faced by UK drug discovery SMEs
Develop robust high quality cheminformatics solutions to support drug 
Expand the core capability of the Catapults cheminformatics team
Qualifications and Experience

Degree or PhD in Computational Chemistry, Chemistry, Biochemistry, 
Computer Science or a related subject
Demonstrated experience using RDkit to develop solutions to real problems
Proficient Python scripting
Experience with Windows and Linux
Experience of working with relational and NoSQL databases
Excellent communication skills
Knowledge of the drug discovery process is preferred
