Post-doctoral position in Computational Physics, IIT, Genova, Italy

A post-doctoral position in Computational Physics is currently available within the Computational mOdelling of NanosCalE and bioPhysical sysTems (CONCEPT) Research Line ( ) of the IIT in Genoa, working on method development and application in the field of molecular modeling and simulation of systems at the nanoscale. The mission of the CONCEPT Lab is to cover the path from ideas to implementation, needed to face the most relevant computational and simulative challenges, with applications especially devoted, but not limited to, the field of Life Sciences.

The successful candidate will play a significant role in developing computational approaches aimed at facing the challenges of modern computational biology, chemistry and physics. Eligible candidates should have a Ph.D. degree and experience in computational physics, engineering, chemistry, or related fields.

The candidates research will focus on developing computational techniques for the description and characterization of large systems at the molecular or supramolecular level. This may involve the development of highly parallel solvers for Partial Differential Equations, such as Poisson-Boltzmann, or the development of advanced techniques to analyze large structures provided, for instance, by Cryo-EM or FEL experimental techniques. Modeling of large structures may also require the development of dedicated force fields, and experience in this activity is welcome.

Proven ability in programming in both scripting and compiled languages like C, C++ and/or Fortran, skills in algorithmic and implementation aspects, numerical analysis, code parallelization (e.g. MPI etc..) and code profiling are considered a must for this application.

Ability in complex data analysis via machine learning techniques is considered as a valuable plus.

Experience in the application of classical molecular dynamics with explicit and implicit solvent and related force fields to the study of complex biomolecular systems, as well as a good knowledge of statistical mechanics are also welcome for this position.

Adequate communication skills in English, as well as marked enthusiasm for research and creativity are mandatory.
