We seek to fill 2 PhD and 2 postdoc positions (m/f) to work at the interface of computational materials science and molecular biophysics. We are looking for excellent, highly motivated researchers to join our research team. You will work on molecular processes and fracture mechanisms of complex polymeric or biological materials, using scale-bridging simulations. Application areas range from novel polymeric metamaterials and their interactions with biological cells to biological lubricants and ionomers. The projects are integrated into highly interdisciplinary and collaborative research environments: the newly established graduate school Tailored Scale-Bridging Approaches to Computational Nanoscience (http://www.compnano.kit.edu), the newly established cluster of excellence 3D Matter made to order (http://www.3dmattermadetoorder.kit.edu), or our longstanding research collaboration with Toyota Europe. You will work in the Molecular Biomechanics Group, which focuses on the link between mechanical forces, materials and biology by developing and using novel algorithms based on Molecular Dynamics simulations, coarse-grained models, and Finite Element methods. You will be based at the Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies (HITS gGmbH). HITS offers an exceptional research setting and an excellent computational infrastructure. You should preferably have experience in numerical simulations and should possess a Master's degree in physics, chemistry or a related discipline (for PhD candidates). You should possess a PhD degree in computational physics, chemistry, mechanical engineering or a related field, and a firm background in molecular simulations (for postdoc candidates). You should have a strong interest in interdisciplinary research. The intended starting date is April 2019 and negotiable.
