Subject: 18.12.20 Advertisement for prospective women students for the graduate (Ph.D.) program at the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Ewha Womans University, Seoul, South Korea (September 2019)
Several positions for enrollment into the Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences are available immediately in the research group of Prof. Sun Choi at the College of Pharmacy and Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Ewha Womans University, Seoul 03760, Korea. The research work in the Choi group is focused on computer-aided drug design (CADD) and drug discovery, molecular modeling, cheminformatics and computational medicinal chemistry. In-silico (computer-based) technologies, such as molecular modeling, CADD and virtual screening, when used in conjugation with experimental methods, significantly reduce the time and money required for drug discovery. Based on multiple disciplines required for drug discovery (e.g., chemistry, biology, pharmacology, etc.), the Choi group is involved in several international, active collaborations and scientific exchanges. Currently, the group includes members from Singapore and the Philippines, in addition to Korean students and post-docs. About the Group Leader Prof. Sun Choi obtained her Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry from the State University of New York at Buffalo, New York, USA (1999), working with Prof. David G. Hangauer. After postdoctoral research with Prof. Richard B. Silverman at the Northwestern University, USA, she joined the Molecular Design Group, Tripos Discovery Research, Tripos Inc in 2001. She moved to the College of Pharmacy, Ewha Womans University, Korea in 2005 as an Assistant Professor, and has been a Full Professor since March, 2016. Eligibility Criteria The minimum eligibility requirement to apply for the program is a bachelors degree in chemistry, pharmacy, life sciences, bioinformatics, biotechnology or a related subject for the Combined Masters and PhD Program; and, a masters degree for the PhD Program. Proficiency in English and flair for computer-based chemistry are also expected. How to apply: - Firstly, contact Prof. Sun Choi for consultation. - Submit an application with a regular form available from the Office of Academic Affairs (http://admission.ewha.ac.kr/enter/doc/international/main.asp). - Submit complete official college transcripts including any graduate work taken at another institution. - Arrange for two letters of recommendation from persons well acquainted with the applicant's academic work, professional experience, and personal qualifications. - Submit an official English test score (TOEFL PBT 550 or iBT 80; IELTs 5.5; TEPS 600; New TEPS 326) - Write a brief tentative study plan for completing the graduate program. Applicants must submit the required documents after filing the admission applications online. Successful applicants are chosen through screening of the documents. More detailed information is provided in the following link: http://admission.ewha.ac.kr/enter/doc/international/main.asp Admissions Application deadline will be usually on October (for the spring semester, beginning in March) or April (for the fall semester, beginning in September). To be admitted as a graduate student, the student must hold a Bachelor's degree or the equivalent from an accredited college or university with a record showing her ability to maintain satisfactory progress in graduate work. The PhD course curriculum consists of 60 credits during the minimum 4 semesters of course work, followed by full-time research work in the group for preparation of publications and dissertation. Scholarships/Financial Assistance Complete coverage of the tuition expenses will be available for the first two students joining the group. International students, who are awarded the EGPP (Ewha Global Partnership Program; http://admission.ewha.ac.kr/enter/doc/international/scholarship-eng.asp) grant, are housed in on-campus dormitories. In addition, based on their performance, a monthly stipend will also be offered to the students.
