Subject: 18.11.15 Postdoc and PhD positions at the University of South Dakota
A Postdoctoral Researcher position is available in Prof. Bess Vlaisavljevich's research group in the Department of Chemistry at the University of South Dakota. This position involves research in the area of computational chemistry and will focus on the study of complex electronic structure in porous materials and/or reactivity in molecular systems. The postdoctoral scholar will perform calculations using a variety of computational methods with emphasis on multiconfigurational wave function based methods, density functional theory, and Monte Carlo simulations. Preference will be given to applicants with expertise in one or more of the following areas: 1) Electronic structure and catalysis of transition metal complexes, 2) Method development (particularly experience with C++), or 3) Force field development and Monte Carlo simulations. The postdoctoral researcher is expected to perform independent research, mentor junior group members, present work at scientific meetings, and prepare scientific publications. Through this position, the postdoctoral researcher will gain skills in modeling complex electronic structure beyond DFT, combining quantum chemistry with molecular simulations (Monte Carlo), collaborating with both computational and experimental groups, and will have other opportunities for professional development. Required Qualifications: a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or another closely related field, a strong background in computational chemistry, a strong track record of scientific productivity as well as experience in managing several projects simultaneously. A proven publication track record, excellent oral and written communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in collaboration are also required. Review of applications will begin November 26, 2018 but will continue until a candidate is selected. Application must be accompanied by curriculum vitae, cover letter, and contact information for at least three references. The University of South Dakota is also seeing applications for PhD students in computational chemistry to work in the group of either Prof. Bess Vlaisavljevich and Prof. Pere Miro.
