The Department of Physics at Virginia Tech (http://www.phys.vt.edu/) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the areas of Theoretical / Computational Soft Matter and/or Biological Physics. Appointment at the Assistant Professor level is anticipated but exceptional senior candidates will also be considered. We especially encourage applications from candidates who complement, extend, or charter new directions to the departments existing strengths in complex biological systems and processes, non-equilibrium statistical physics, bio-membrane physics, and polymer physics. Our Center for Soft Matter and Biological Physics (https://csmb.phys.vt.edu/) provides broad opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborations within Virginia Techs College of Science (http://www.science.vt.edu/) and College of Engineering (https://eng.vt.edu/), as well as its Macro-molecules Innovation (https://mii.vt.edu/), Bio-complexity (http://www.bi.vt.edu/), and Critical Technology and Applied Science(http://www.ictas.vt.edu/)Institutes. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent in physics or a closely related field and must have postdoctoral experience at the time of appointment. The successful candidates will be expected to establish a vigorous and externally well-funded research program; teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels; continue development of scholarly activities and professional capabilities; occasionally travel, for example, to attend professional conferences and present research seminars; and actively participate in department, college, and university governance.
