Schrödinger is a science and technology leader with over 25 years of experience developing software solutions for quantum mechanics-, molecular dynamics-, and machine learning-based chemical simulation and prediction.

We're searching for a Materials Science Applications Scientist to work closely with our industrial and academic contacts. This role involves delivering presentations to customers, leading technical discussions, validating new methods, writing high-impact scientific publications, training, and working with customers to enable them to solve challenging scientific and engineering problems. Additionally, Applications Scientists act as a critical link between our customers and Schrödinger software developers, sales, and marketing. They provide feedback on technology requirements, feature enhancements, and use-case scenarios.

This employee will also prepare to work with customers on leveraging machine learning and deep learning to develop predictive models, reveal critical structure-property relationships, discover new materials, optimize processes, and transform data into knowledge. We expect this person to drive internal development of machine learning models and tools to aid in working with customers.

Our Applications Scientists to gain high proficiency with Schrödinger machine learning and deep learning technologies as they are applied to key applications areas, including optoelectronics, catalysis, energy storage, semiconductors, aerospace, and specialty chemicals.


  • Ph.D. (or extensive experience) in Chemistry, Materials Science, Engineering, or Physics
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to conduct independent research
  • Experience with the application of machine learning, neural networks, deep learning, data analysis, or chemical informatics to materials and complex chemicals
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites for meetings (~40% of the time)


  • Post-doctoral research and/or relevant experience in the commercial sector
  • Python/tensorflow programming experience
