Subject: 18.01.31 Postdoctoral Fellowship in Computational Chemistry, Unicersity of Copenhagen
Postdoctoral Fellowship in Computational Chemistry, Novo Nordisk
Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research, Faculty of Health
Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

Background
The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research (CBMR)
has been established at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of
Copenhagen to conduct basic research on metabolism (www.metabol.ku.dk)
based on a DKK 885 million unrestricted grant from the Novo Nordisk
Foundation. We are a center of excellence where talented researchers
and experienced laboratory technicians is bringing scientific
discoveries from the laboratory to the society in an effort to tackle
some of todays biggest challenges diabetes and obesity. We are proud
of the outstanding discoveries made by the Center, and we are committed
to the translation of this knowledge into novel approaches to patient
care. The position is in the Group of Associate Professor Thomas
Frimurer in Section for Metabolic Receptology headed by Thue W. Schwartz.

Position and project description
A 2-year postdoctoral fellowship is available at the Computational
Chemistry Group of Thomas Frimurer. The candidate will develop and
apply recent advancements in computational chemistry and
structure-based design to discover in particular small molecule ligands
to be used as pharmacological tool compounds and early drug leads.
These ligands will enable evaluation of the physiological role and the
pharmacological potential of proteins and receptors related to
metabolic disorders. The work will be performed in close collaboration
with the molecular pharmacology group, which the team is closely
integrated with physically.

Qualifications and requirements
Ph.D. with an excellent track record from a leading laboratory in the
fields of computational chemistry. Excellent written and oral
communication skills in English is a requirement. In considering
applications for the position, the main emphasis will be on the
applicant's ability to document a high level of original scientific
work at an international level within the area of computational
chemistry and molecular design - directly related to drug discovery
applications. Relevant areas of experience may include:

-Development and direct application of computational methods to
     structure-based-ligand-design and drug discovery, including:
molecular modelling of protein ligand complexes, molecular
dynamics simulations, development of methods for advanced
structure and ligand based design, enumeration of chemical
libraries, large scale structure based virtual screening and analysis.

-Experience with medicinal chemistry and compound optimization.

-Extensive experience with Linux and programming languages such as
  C, Python or Perl.

Specific knowledge in these areas is less critical than outstanding
intellectual ability, unusually strong computational research skills,
and a history of innovation and accomplishment together with a high
level of motivation and strong collaborative skills.

We are committed to fostering a stimulating, rewarding, and flexible
work environment for candidates of truly exceptional ability.

Application
The deadline for applications is, 1st of March 2018. We only accept
online applications. For any administrative queries, please contact HR
Consultant Henriette Strand Nielsen, e-mail hsn : sund.ku.dk

The application should include:

    -Current curriculum vitae
    -Copies of relevant diplomas
    -Complete publication list
    -Motivated application

Employment Conditions
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in
accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC
(Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant
professional organizations. The position is covered by the Job
Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2013.

The position will be at the level of postdoctoral fellow. The gross
basic salary range for Postdoctoral Fellows is DKK 33,224 to DKK 34,980
per month (level 6 to 8). To the basic salary a supplement could be
negotiated, dependent on the candidates experience and qualifications.
An additional 17.1 % monthly contribution to pension will be paid by
the employer.

Starting date is 1st April 2018 or as soon as possible hereafter.
