Research Associate in Theoretical Molecular Physics - Calculation of
Molecular Linelists

Applications are invited for a post-doctoral position to work with Dr
Sergey Yurchenko and Prof Jonathan Tennyson as part of the ExoMol team
( aimed at calculating extensive line lists as input
for spectroscopic models of the atmospheres of extrasolar planets (and
other hot bodies). The opening is to compute data for molecules
important for modelling atmospheres of hot super-Earth. The data will
be calculated using high level ab initio procedures based on the
state-of-the-art electronic structure and variational nuclear motion
methods. The results will form a part of the ExoMol database.

We are looking for a candidate with a solid research training in the
quantum mechanics of small molecules and an interest in applications
to astrophysical problems. The candidate will be responsible for
performing high accuracy electronic structure and variational nuclear
motion calculations on open-shell diatomic and small polyatomic
molecules, generating associated transition probabilities, performing
programming development as may be required for these calculations.

The post is open from April 2018 (or shortly after) and funded by STFC
for 3 years in the first instance.

Closing date for applications: 12 Feb 2018
