PhD position in Theoretical Molecular Biophysics, Berlin, Germany
The Theoretical Molecular Biophysics group at the Department of Physics, Freie Universität Berlin, invites applications for a PhD position within the project Coupling between protonation dynamics, protein and water dynamics in channelrhodopsins.
Channelrhodopsins are membrane proteins that function as cation channels. Their light sensitivity and photocycle features makes channelrhodopsins a valuable tool for optogenetics research. The doctoral project will involve computations with quantum mechanical, classical mechanical, and combined quantum mechanical/ molecular mechanical approaches to characterize proton transfers and protein conformational dynamics in channelrhodopsin variants.
The project is part of the Collaborative Research Center SFB 1078, Protonation Dynamics in Protein Function. The PhD position is funded until 30.12.2020, starting immediately.
The PhD candidate has a degree in Physics, Chemistry, or a related field that qualifies the candidate for doctoral research in our Department, motivation and skills to pursue computational biophysics research, and excellent communication skills in English. Previous experience with theoretical biophysics is an advantage but not required.
To apply, please send to endrias,,physik.fu-berlin.de a single pdf file containing a motivation letter, CV, contact information for two references, a summary of the undergraduate research experience (1-2 pages), transcript of academic records, and academic certificates translated into English or German. For informal enquiries regarding the PhD position and the research project, contact nbondar,,zedat.fu-berlin.de .
