Subject: 17.05.23 Postdoc and PhD Positions in Computational Membrane Biophysics in Erlangen, Germany
Postdoc Position
A Postdoc position / Senior Postdoc position is available in the Computational Biology Group led by
Rainer Boeckmann at the University of Erlangen-Nuernberg, Germany. The successful candidate will
utilize both atomistic and coarse-grained molecular dynamics simulations in the study of
biomembrane organization and function and the analysis of membrane proteins involved in signal
transduction or transport.
Candidates are expected to hold a PhD degree in Physics, Chemistry, or Biochemistry, have a proven
experience with molecular dynamics simulations and free energy methods, and an excellent
understanding of the physics and chemistry of biomembranes. Good knowledge of statistical
mechanics and programming skills are advantageous, as well as previous work on force field
development.
Interested candidates should send one pdf document containing a cover letter, CV including contact
details for possible referees, and certificates to rainer.boeckmann|fau.de.

PhD Positions
Applications are invited for PhD positions in theoretical and computational membrane biophysics in
the Computational Biology Group of Rainer Boeckmann at the University of Erlangen-Nuernberg,
Germany. Projects focus on lipid-protein interaction, membrane dynamics, membrane phase
transition, structure-dynamics-function relationship of channels using atomistic and coarse-grained
molecular dynamics simulations.
Candidates should preferably hold a master in computational/theoretical physics or chemistry, have
a good knowledge of statistical mechanics and programming skills. The PhD student will join the
Research Training Group Dynamic Interactions at Biological Membranes
