Subject: 17.05.23 Postdoctoral Researcher - Molecular Simulations in Materials Chemistry
A three-year PostDoc position is available in the molecular modeling group at the Institute for Soil research,
University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU) in Vienna.
The group is focused on application of a broad scale of molecular simulation:
methods of computational chemistry in geochemistry, environmental, soil, and materials chemistry,
in a strong collaboration with experimental partners. The position is funded through the Austrian Science Fund (FWF).

Main job purpose:
The opened position is linked to the bilateral Austrian-German project
"Characterization of structure and properties of bioorganoclays - perspective hybrid materials".
The objective of the project is to prepare, characterize, and model new bioorganoclay materials based
on a matter of microbial origin (e.g. phospholipids) and clay minerals (e.g. smectites).
The Austrian side is responsible for the modeling part with a focus to provide complex and detailed (molecular-scale)
characterization of the structure and properties of new bioorganoclay materials,
e.g. arrangement of the bioorganic species in interlayer spaces and on external surfaces of clays.
The work will require a development of representative models of bioorganoclays,
selection and application of suitable molecular modeling methods and protocols, and data analysis and interpretation.
This work will be conducted in an intensive coordination and collaboration with the German partner
under a supervision by Dr. Tunega from BOKU.

Candidates should hold a PhD in Chemistry, Physics, or related area with
a relevant specialization in computational chemistry.
Candidates should have knowledge in statistical mechanics and proven
experience in performing molecular simulations. Fluency in written and oral English is expected,
programming skills and shell scripting are welcome.

Start date:
August or September 2017
How to apply and further information:
We invite researchers seeking postdoctoral positions to send their CVs
and two contacts for references to Dr. Tunega daniel.tunega[*]
