Subject: 17.04.16 2 PhD positions in theoretical/computational chemistry at University of Zurich (Switzerland)
The University of Zurich has an interdisciplinary research priority program "Solar light to chemical energy conversion"
(LightChEC; with the goal to develop an efficient visible light-driven water splitting device for
sustainable energy storage and conversion. Detailed understanding and development of water splitting catalysts is
essential for this endeavour and the PhD positions are embedded in this framework.

The first project deals with development and application of novel forefront methods for spectroscopy of molecules
in the gas and condensed phase.
The second project concerns accurate approaches for in-depth investigation and smart design of catalysts for artificial solar
light-driven water splitting. The research will be carried out in close collaboration with other groups, in particular of
the LightChEC priority program. Methods used will include density functional theory and wavefunction-based approaches
combined with ab initio molecular dynamics.

The candidates must hold a Masters degree in chemistry, physics, or related, and have profound English skills.
Strong programming skills and good knowledge about electronic structure theory and molecular dynamics are an advantage.

Interested applicants are encouraged to send their application documents (cover letter, CV, diploma,
description of research experience and motivation, names of two academic references) as one pdf document
per e-mail to Prof. Sandra Luber. The positions are available immediately and applications will be considered
until the positions are filled.
