Subject: 17.03.17 PhD Scholarship in Computational Biomimetic Catalysis, University of Edinburgh, UK
We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic PhD student to join our team on a project entitled: Toward the Computational Design of Bio- Inspired Smart Catalysts. A key attribute will be the ability to work with different computational tools and to closely interact with experimentalists. This is a 36-month tax-free award available to start 1st September 2017. It covers tuition fees and living expenses at the standard EPSRC rate (commencing at 14,296 per year). -Project Description: Inspired by features found in naturally occurring catalysts, in this project we will use and develop in silico approaches to rationalise and facilitate the design of artificial catalysts for enantioselective chemical synthesis. The research work will involve performing calculations using molecular quantum mechanics and molecular dynamics, in combination with computational workflows. This will be applied to study the design of new catalysts in collaboration with experimentalists. -Person specification/qualifications: The successful candidate should hold or should soon expect to obtain a first class or upper-second class degree (or equivalent) in chemistry or a related subject Candidates must have demonstrated communication skills, and a desire to learn, lead and teach, and be able to work independently. Prior knowledge of computational methodologies and programming is desired at this stage but not required. This is 36-month fully funded PhD studentship (UK/EU tuition fees & EPSRC stipend) available to UK citizens and EU citizens that have been resident in the UK for a period of three years or more. The PhD project will be carried out under the supervision of Dr Fernanda Duarte in the School of Chemistry at the University of Edinburgh.
If you have any queries regarding the vacancy, please contact Dr Fernanda Duarte at Fernanda.duarte|at|ed.ac.uk https://fduarteg.wordpress.com To apply, please send your cover letter and CV along with the names and contact details of two referees to the above email address. Applications will be evaluated on an on-going basis but the studentship must begin no later than 01 September 2017.NOTE THAT E-MAIL ADDRESSES HAVE BEEN MODIFIED!!!
All @ signs were changed to (!) to fight spam. Before you send e-mail, you need to change (!) to @
