Postdoctoral position in Theoretical and Computational Nanomedicine, Genova, Italy

The Laboratory of Nanotechnology for Precision Medicine at IIT Genova ( https://www.iit.it/research/lines/nanotechnology-for-precision-medicine ) focuses its research activities on the rational design of nanoconstructs for multi-modal imaging and combination therapy in cancer, cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases; fabrication of microfluidic chips for the screening of nanomedicines and the analysis of tumor biophysics; and development of hierarchical multi-scale computational models. This is achieved by integrating the expertise of biomedical engineers, physicists, chemists, biologists, pharmacologists, and clinical scientists.

The Laboratory of Nanotechnology for Precision Medicine seeks a post-doctoral fellow, in the framework of the European Research Council project Engineering Discoidal Polymeric Nanoconstructs for the Multi-Physics Treatment of Brain Tumors POTENT funded by the European Commission with Grant Agreement n. 616695, to work on the development of theoretical and computational models for assessing the interaction of nanomedicines with small molecules and proteins. Models will help in in the prediction of the loading and release of drug molecules from polymeric nanoconstructs under different environmental conditions and elucidating the mechanisms of nanomedicine opsonization in whole blood.

The post-doctoral fellow will closely collaborate with experimentalists on the validation of the simulations and development of truly predictive models.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • a PhD in Computational Sciences, Engineering, Theoretical Chemistry or Physics with a strong publication record;
  • previous experience in developing/performing molecular simulations;
  • ability to properly report research data and work in a highly interdisciplinary environment.

For any informal queries please contact directly Dr. Paolo Decuzzi ( paolo.decuzzi^iit.it ).

For a formal application, please send a CV, a cover letter describing your previous work and career goals, and 2 reference letters both to applications^iit.it and paolo.decuzzi^iit.it by January 15, 2017.
