Postdoctoral Positions in Protein Modeling and Computational Chemistry, Boston University

We invite applications for two postdoctoral positions in the Laboratory for Structural Biology, lead by Dr. Sandor Vajda, in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Boston University.

Project 1 involves integrating protein modeling and bioinformatics tools with the protein-protein docking methods developed in our lab, as well as modeling protein aggregation and affinity changes upon antibody maturation. We have strong preliminary results on these topics, as well as great experimental collaborators. The work will require substantial algorithm development, and hence we are particularly interested in candidates with a strong background in this area.

Project 2 focuses on developing new computational tools for fragment based drug discovery. This will involve algorithm and program development, and also good understanding of modeling of small organic molecules, including potential functions and parameterization. Depending on the candidates interest, it is possible to participate in ongoing collaborations with experimental groups on a variety of targets.

The postdocs will have both the support and the freedom to prepare themselves for either academic or industrial career. To apply, please send a cover letter to vajda%a%bu.edu along with research interests, curriculum vitae, and names/contact information of three references.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in computational chemistry, biophysics, structural biology, or bioinformatics
  • Extensive programming experience, preferably including C, C++, or Fortran
  • Familiarity with the biophysical principles of molecular structure and modeling
  • Good communication skills, team player, but also able to work independently
