From: jobs at ccl.net (do not send your application there!!!) To: jobs at ccl.net Date: Wed May 28 06:48:09 2008 Subject: 08.05.28 PhD position in computational/theoretical chemistry, St Andrews, UK A PhD studentship is available at the School of Chemistry at the University of St Andrews. The studentship is for 3.5 years and will be jointly supervised by Dr. Tanja van Mourik (University of St Andrews) and Dr. Mark Law (University of Aberdeen). The project involves studying the potential energy surfaces and vibration-rotation quantum dynamics of silicon hydrides. The work on determining molecular potential energy surfaces will employ state of the art computational techniques and software for electronic structures of molecules and will be mainly supervised by Dr. Tanja van Mourik. The work on determining vibrational quantum states of the silicon hydride molecules will use diffusion Monte Carlo techniques as well as variational methods and will be mainly supervised by Dr. Mark Law. The University of St Andrews is the oldest in Scotland. St Andrews is a charming, friendly and picturesque small town, famous for its golf courses, beaches and surrounding countryside. The School of Chemistry at the University of St Andrews is a vibrant (RAE 5 rated) department that is currently further developing its international reputation in all areas of chemistry. A rapidly expanding area within the school is computational chemistry. The School of Chemistry provides an outstanding environment for research and study. Excellent computing facilities are available in form of the EaStCHEM Research Computing Facility. Successful applicants should hold or expect to obtain a degree at grade 2.1 or above, or its equivalent. The funding covers a stipend for 3.5 years (at typically GBP 12940 per year) and all fees at the home rate. Funding is available for UK citizens, but excellent EU residents may be considered as well.
