To: jobs at ccl.net Date: Fri May 2 17:54:06 2008 Subject: 08.05.02 Post-Doctoral Position in Theoretical Biochemistry POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE IN THEORETICAL BIOCHEMISTRY The successful applicant will continue to develop our research program in the study of the protein dynamics. This work will contribute to the novel molecular simulation methodologies that have been developed in our lab (QM/MM CHARMM/DeMON2k, polarizable force-field development and studies of mechanisms for the passive and facilitated membrane transport). Successful completion of this project will require some advancement of our methodologies, running extensive sets of simulations, and detailed analysis and visualization of the results obtained. This position is funded through a recent Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research award to a PI. There will considerable opportunity to interact and collaborate with other groups working both in theory (collaboration with D. Salahub UofC on QM/MM techniques) and experiment (UofC Faculty of Medicine, OHSU Neuroscience Institute). Background: The applicant must have a Ph.D. in chemistry, biophysics or related field as well as a very good publication record. Some experience with molecular simulations of liquid and/or biological systems is also desired.The applicant must have good communication skills and a strong command of the English language. The following will also be assets: - Scientific programming experience (Fortran and/or C++); - Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of Linux clusters Salary and Tenure: The position carries with it a (minimum) salary set at the CIHR standard of CAD $37,000/year (commensurate with relevant experience). The position is available starting July 1-st, 2008. The initial appointment will be for 1 year with the possible extension for a further 12 months. The Department of Biological Sciences is a very active and successful research department with excellence in the field of computational and structural biology, with more than 150 graduate students and postdocs.
