<pre>The Structural Genomics Consortium (SGC, <a href="http://www.thesgconline.org" target="_blank">http://www.thesgconline.org</a> )
is a not-for-profit organization that aims to determine the three 
dimensional structures of proteins of medical relevance, and place 
them in the Protein Data Bank without restriction. In the next four 
years, particular emphasis will be put in identifying, optimizing and
co-crystallizing chemical probes against our targets.


The SGC operates out of the Universities of Toronto, Oxford and the Karolinska 
Institutet in Stockholm. In the period from July 2004 to June 2007, the SGC 
deposited the structures of 450 proteins from its Target List of ~2,000 
proteins, to achieve a deposition rate of 200 structures per year. Research
at the SGC focuses on proteins involved in most human diseases as well as
diseases, like malaria, caused by parasites.


As a member of the Toronto-based computational chemistry team
(<a href="http://thesgc.com/sgc-webpages/sgc-toronto.php" target="_blank">http://thesgc.com/sgc-webpages/sgc-toronto.php</a>), you will use virtual
screening technologies, design focused chemical libraries, analyze HTS
data, and apply structure-based approaches to identify hits against SGC
targets and optimize their affinity and selectivity. You will interact
with structural biologists, biochemists and chemists to contribute to
the development of chemical probes, and will publish your work in peer
reviewed journals. Experience with docking, virtual screening, molecular
cartridges and at least one computational chemistry package is highly
desirable, but not as important as the ability to learn quickly, be
creative, motivated and organized.


SGC Toronto will relocate in August 2008 to its brand new facility, in the
MaRS building, University Campus, downtown Toronto.</pre>
