To: jobs at ccl.net Date: Mon Mar 3 12:33:54 2008 Subject: 08.03.03 Molecular Mdlng Lab,IBM Blue GEen Supercomputer,Hormel Institute,Austin,MN POSTDOCTORAL POSITIONS IN MOLECULAR MODELING AND MEDICINAL CHEMISTRY AT THE HORMEL INSTITUTE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA Two postdoctoral positions are available starting January 15, 2008 at the Hormel Institute, an independent research branch of the University of Minnesota, located in Austin, MN. The successful candidates will work in the newly constituted Molecular Modeling laboratory portion of the Cellular and Molecular Biology group at The Hormel Institute. The Institute has recently acquired an IBM Blue Gene supercomputer and is collaborating with IBM to enhance the computational chemistry effort. One position will primarily involve simulations using molecular systems that are relevant in fundamental Cancer research. The successful candidate will use a variety of computational methods and he or she will work closely with experimentalists to study these systems. We look for individuals with experience in at least 2 of the following competencies: Homology Modeling, Docking, Virtual Screening, Classical Molecular Dynamics simulations, 3D/2D-QSAR, or QM/MM calculations. Proteins structure and interaction forces analysis and communication with experimentalists are part of the duties of this position. A Ph.D. in chemistry, pharmacy, biology or related fields is required. Good programming and knowledge of scripting languages are required in addition to strong written and oral communications skills. Experience programming and with High-Performance computers is a plus. A second position will focus on the development and testing of small molecule inhibitors with potential utility in treating different types of cancer. The position requires participation in designing and execution of research projects, development of synthetic methodologies for preparation of biologically active agents. A Ph.D. in organic chemistry, synthetic medicinal chemistry or related area is required. Must have a strong experience in organic synthesis and associated techniques and be familiar with standard analytical methods. A sound knowledge of computer- aided drug design techniques is preferred.
