Academic Computing Manager for Natural Sciences and Mathematics   

Provide direction, innovation, and leadership in the use of information
technology by faculty in the sciences and mathematics. 

Reporting to the Director of Academic Computing Services, and in close
consultation with a faculty oversight committee, be responsible for
developing and managing instructional and research computing support
services for the science faculty, and the management of a wide range of
discipline-specific software. Work closely with Instructional Media Services
to provide student access to discipline-specific software in the public
computing labs, and with Desktop Support to make software available to
faculty and staff on faculty desktop and research lab systems. 

As one of a team of three discipline-specific instructional computing
specialists: provide faculty with training and documentation on the use of
the course management system, personal response system, classroom computing
technology, and relevant software; coordinate installation of
discipline-specific software in the science computing facilities and faculty
and staff desktop and lab systems; identify instructional and research
software needs for the sciences, and then working with other Information
Technology Services staff, identify, develop, and deploy resources and
services to meet these needs; provide support to academic departments in the
management of department websites; provide consulting and guidance to
faculty regarding instructional and research computing support services and
programs available to them on campus and through affiliated organizations
(e.g., NERCOMP, NITLE); consult on the use of technology in teaching and
research; facilitate the publication of faculty websites and web-based
scholarly communications.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and three or more years of
relevant work experience. Academic background in the sciences. Experience
supporting course management systems. Detailed understanding of the Windows
(XP/Vista) and Macintosh, and some familiarity with UNIX operating systems.
Fluency with Microsoft Office, web editing, and Web 2.0 applications. Must
be self-motivated and demonstrated excellent organizational and
communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications: Advanced degree in a sciences related field.
Experience in successful grant writing. Programming and/or scripting skills
(e.g., Python, perl), experience working with computational software
packages (e.g., Mathematica, MATLab, MathCAD), ArcGIS, or databases (e.g.,
MySQL). Teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
