Subject: 08.02.15 Computational Medicinal Chemist

1. Computational Medicinal Chemistry Postdoctoral Position

A computational medicinal chemistry postdoctoral position is available immediately in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry, School of Pharmacy, University of Mississippi, Oxford, MS, 38655, in the research group of Prof. Robert J. Doerksen.

Job Responsibilities

The research project is to design and model specific inhibitors for protein kinases implicated in Alzheimer's disease, starting from natural product lead structures. Nature can be a great source of novel chemical structures, but in order to have a drug development program with predictive power it is essential to have rational drug design and modification of the nature-derived hits for particular targets. Computational methods including docking, molecular dynamics, ab initio molecular dynamics and binding energy determinations will be used to study the interactions of the small molecules with kinases. The work involves collaboration with experimentalists who do the synthetic modifications and testing of the designed structures.

Qualifications/Skills

Candidates should have a PhD in computational medicinal chemistry, chemistry, physics or related fields and an outstanding publication record. They should have prior experience in simulations of biomolecules and practical knowledge of and experience using current simulation techniques, including ab initio molecular dynamics. Applicants should have excellent scripting skills; supercomputing experience; proficiency with UNIX/Linux operating system and system administration experience. Candidates must have good communication skills.

Application Procedure

Applications must be submitted through the University of Mississippi's online employment site at: jobs.olemiss.edu. Qualified applicants should submit a cover letter and CV and arrange to have 3 letters of recommendation sent by email to Dr. Robert Doerksen at rjd],[olemiss.edu. The position is available immediately. The appointment will be for one year, with extension possible upon mutual agreement and continued funding. Applications will be considered until the position is filled.

About the location:

Oxford, MS, literary town famous as home to William Faulkner and John Grisham, is peaceful, inexpensive and safe. It is in northern Mississippi about an hour from the major city of Memphis, TN. Memphis International Airport (MEM) has direct flights to Amsterdam and is a Northwest Airlines hub.

The University of Mississippi is an EEO/AA/Title VI/Title IX/Section 504/ADA/ADEA Employer.

2. Computational Medicinal Chemistry Associate R&D Chemist

A computational medicinal chemistry Associate Research & Development Chemist position is available immediately in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry, School of Pharmacy, University of Mississippi, Oxford, MS, 38655, in the research group of Prof. Robert J. Doerksen.

Job Responsibilities

Perform computational studies of protein-ligand interactions. One project is to design and model specific inhibitors for protein kinases implicated in Alzheimer's disease, starting from natural product lead structures. Computational methods including comparative protein modeling, docking, molecular dynamics, ab initio molecular dynamics and binding energy determinations will be used. The research involves report writing and collaboration with experimentalists who do the synthetic modifications and testing of the designed structures.

Qualifications/Skills

Candidates should have a Bachelors degree in a relevant field and have a proven record of accomplishment in computational medicinal chemistry, chemistry, physics, biology or related fields. They should have prior experience in simulations of biomolecules and practical knowledge of and experience using the computational methods described in the job responsibilities above. Applicants should have excellent scripting skills; supercomputing experience; proficiency with a UNIX/Linux operating system and system administration experience. Candidates must have good communication skills.
