From chemistry-request@ccl.net Tue Oct 22 12:42:33 1991 Date: Tue, 22 Oct 91 12:03:31 -0400 From: Douglas Doren Subject: Postdoc Offered To: chemistry@ccl.net Status: R Postdoctoral Position Available in Theoretical Surface Science I am looking for a postdoc to work in my group starting at any time, but preferably within the next six months. Our work covers a range of topics in theoretical surface science (described in more detail below). I am especially interested in working with someone who can bring expertise in new areas to our group. Salary will be in the $22,000 to $24,000 range. The appointment will initially be for one year, but depending on mutual willingness and funding, it will be extendable for at least one more year. The new projects in which I am primarily interested involve water-air and water-liquid interfaces. New theoretical methods will be needed for both of these projects and a good background in physics or chemical physics will be important. We are also working in several other areas of surface science, including simulations of molecular surface diffusion, kinetic modeling of surface reactions, path integral methods for including quantum effects in surface reaction rates, and application of ab initio electronic structure methods to reaction mechanisms on semiconductor surfaces. Projects are available in all of these areas and the particular project someone will work on depends on their interests and expertise. Anyone interested in the postion should send a cv, recent preprints or reprints and arrange to have two or three letters of reccomendation sent to me at the followong address: Doug Doren Dept of Chemistry University of Delaware Newark, Delaware 19716 Phone: (302) 451-1070 Fax: (302) 451-6335 Internet: doren@brahms.udel.edu From jkl@ccl.net Tue Oct 22 13:10:13 1991 To: chemistry@ccl.net Subject: A reminder from the Comp.Chem.List Date: Tue, 22 Oct 91 13:10:03 EDT From: jkl@ccl.net Status: R Dear Computational Chemists of the World. This is your coordinator speaking. Just a periodic reminder about list services and use. I urge you to read the help file before posting to the list. Here are some reminders for those who read the help file recently. There are following e-mail addresses you need to remember: 1. Automatic document forwarder: ================================ OSCPOST@ccl.net or OSCPOST@OHSTPY.BITNET This service sends requested files by e-mail. To request a file send a following line (or lines) to the above address: send this_file from chemistry where this_file is a name of a file you request. The examples are (NOTE, do not include text in brackets --- these are comments !): send help from chemistry [will send a help file for the list] send positions.offered from chemistry [sends list of available jobs] send positions.wanted from chemistry [list of people looking for a job] send index from chemistry [sends an index of files available] send software from chemistry [index of free software available from list] and many more as explained in the help file. Note, all letters must be lowercase latters. The file will be automatically forwarded to you. If something does not work, tell me please, I am human too, you know. If you have ftp, it is even easier (if you do not know if you have ftp, just try it, in the worst case you will get: "FTP? Was ist das?"). If you have it, it is a good idea to read about it. If you do not have to use ftp now, you will sure need to use it in the future. Do: ftp www.ccl.net (or ftp 128.146.36.48) Login: anonymous Password: Your_own_email_address (e.g., janeshmoe@chem.bigu.edu) ftp> cd pub/chemistry ftp> get this_file ftp> get another_file ftp> get yet_another_file ftp> quit Here, ftp> is the prompt the ftp program uses (you might have a different prompt). For computer literates out there: the OSCPOST and ftp interfaces access the same files. The OSCPOST interface accesses the /pub/chemistry directory. If you need to access something below /pub/chemistry directory tree (e.g., /pub/chemistry/allen/f.11) than your message to OSCPOST will be: send ./allen/f.11 from chemistry or send allen/f.11 from chemistry while in ftp you need to do: ftp> cd pub/chemistry ftp> cd allen ftp> get f.11 If you use ftp, and the file is binary, you need to add a following line before starting the transfer: ftp> binary If you are grabbing compressed tar files using ftp (they are binary !), you need to uncompress them, after you got them, by using the following UNIX command: zcat this_file.tar.Z | tar xvof - or uncompress this_file.tar.Z tar xvof this_file.tar Tar and compress is also available on other systems, but do not ask me how to use it, I do not know. 2. List coordinator: ==================== CHEMISTRY-REQUEST@ccl.net or jkl@ccl.net or JKL@OHSTPY.BITNET If you want to unsubscribe, change address, submit entry to positions.offered or positions.wanted, etc. contact CHEMISTRY-REQUEST This address is for a REQUEST ! We are here to serve you Sir/Madam ! 3. The List: =========== chemistry@ccl.net or chemistry@oscsunb.ccl.net When you send your message to the above address, everybody on the list gets it ! Be carefull to make a distinction between: CHEMISTRY and CHEMISTRY-REQUEST CHEMISTRY is EVERYBODY (i.e. over 700 people all over the world !) CHEMISTRY-REQUEST is coordinator. If someone abuses the list, send HIM/HER the hate mail, not me. I cannot stop the messages being distributed, and I do not censor the messages being posted.
